What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is an internationally recognized form of mental health and medical treatment. Practiced by qualified professional art therapists, it creates a safe space to express feelings and emotions through creative visual expression, allowing for symbolic dialogue and a deeper understanding of one's own experiences, beyond the realm of reason. Through integrative methods, it engages mind, body, and spirit, facilitating authentic and healing expression.

How does it work?

Within an authentic therapeutic relationship and a safe space, the art therapist invites the person in consultation to creatively explore themes that have emerged in conversations, stimulating creativity, imagination, and self-expression.

In exploring symbolic elements that bring the unconscious to consciousness, a dialogue is facilitated between the artwork and the creator. Feeling more secure, inner parts of themselves manifest, revealing conflicting aspects that generate tension and pain. This allows for observation, flexibility, and a broadening of perspectives on the same problem, fostering self-understanding, compassion, and transformation.

Who benefits from Art Therapy?

Honoring everyone's values and beliefs, art therapy transcends cultural, gender, and age boundaries, making it accessible to all. No prior artistic talent is required, only curiosity and an openness to explore.

What are its benefits?

Art therapy offers a wide range of mental health benefits, including emotional management, stress reduction, anxiety management, improved self-esteem, trauma processing, and increased creativity.

All of this stems from a framework that validates personal experiences, leading to empowerment and self-affirmation. It's about not living on the margins of what we can and want to be, but rather celebrating and reclaiming our healing potential and who we are in the present moment with fullness.

And how does art therapy address trauma?

Historically, art therapy has been a pioneering and fundamental discipline in the treatment of trauma. From its inception, its unique ability to reach where words cannot was recognized, offering a direct channel of communication with pain without the need for premature verbalization.

My approach addresses trauma by intertwining its dimensions. emotional and neurobiological, providing comprehensive support:

A Safe Space: The art therapy space becomes a refuge. Here, artistic creation allows for the visual externalization of painful images, sensations, and memories. symbolic, releasing the emotional burden without it becoming overwhelming.

The Aesthetic Distance: Contact with artistic materials allows one to inhabit the present while observing the wounds of the past. Paper or canvas acts as a safe container that regulates emotional intensity, allowing one to approach trauma with a prudent and manageable distance.

Reconnection and Control: By creating, a person ceases to be a passive victim of their experiences and becomes the author of their own work. This process restores a sense of control, allowing process, digest and reframe the traumatic experience.

The ultimate goal is not to erase the past, but to integrate it. It is a profound process of re-signification, Designed to help you move from survival mode back to life, restoring your connection with yourself and the world around you in a state of safety, confidence, and vitality.
